Daschled Dreams As reporters focus on upcoming
speeches from Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush, many delegates in New
York City are buzzing about a Senate race that could mean the end of Tom Daschle's political career.
Daschle is facing John Thune, a well-spoken former member of the House, and polls show the race is very close. A new poll
released yesterday by the National Republican Senatorial Committee shows Thune leading Daschle. Which might explain why Daschle,
running in conservative South Dakota, is running a television ad that shows him hugging President Bush while a newspaper headline
blares, "Daschle: Time to Unite Behind Troops, Bush." Source Article: Stephen F Hayes
EU
CRITICIZES ISRAELI THREATS AGAINST SYRIA
Voice of America News reports: “European Union
foreign policy chief Javier Solana has criticized an Israeli threat against Syria
following Palestinian suicide bombings Tuesday that killed 16 people.
Mr. Solana said in Valkenburg, Netherlands, Friday he does
not think it’s helpful to start talking about attacking other countries. He said the situation in the Middle
East is complicated enough already.
Mr. Solana was responding to remarks by
Israeli officials that they would hold Syria responsible for attacks in

MILLIONS
COULD BE FINGERPRINTED UNDER BIOMETRIC IDENTIFICATION PLANS
Canada.com
reports: “Virtually every
newcomer to Canada would be fingerprinted
and photographed under ambitious federal security proposals, The Canadian Press has learned.
A newly obtained report shows the government
is looking at the collection and to permanent residents and new citizens.
The personal identification effort could
also extend to millions more who are born Canadian, possibly reviving the idea of a national identity card, indicates the
report released by Citizenship and Immigration Canada under the Access to Information Act.
The prospect of a universal identity card
for Canadians met a generally chilly reception when floated by the government last year.
One refugee advocate roundly denounced
the latest set of plans as a move towards a ‘surveillance society.’
The report, Biometrics: CIC Business Requirements,
was completed by a consultant last December under the direction of Citizenship and Immigration's enforcement branch.
It touts biometrics - measurable physical
characteristics such as facial appearance, an iris scan or fingerprints - as a means of linking a document-holder to the right
to travel or receive government services.
‘The use of biometrics is not a
panacea for program issues, but promises to be a useful tool whose time has now arrived,’ the report says.
‘Biometric technologies potentially
add an additional layer of security to a program, supporting the anti-terrorism agenda.’…”
THE FOLLOWING IS FROM FRIDAY
CHURCH NEWS NOTES:
EPISCOPAL BISHOP SAYS JESUS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO
GOD, CHURCHES LEAVING. Friday Church News Notes,
September 3, 2004 - Bishop J. Jon Bruno of Los Angeles
exemplifies the theological liberalism that has permeated the Episcopal Church in America in the past 60 years. He claims that Jesus Christ is not the only way to
God, and he performs “marriage” ceremonies for vile homosexual Episcopal priests and their male “lovers.”
As a result, three congregations have recently pulled out of Bruno’s diocese: St. James’ Episcopal Church in Newport Beach, All Saints’ in Long Beach, and St. David’s
in North Hollywood. In his “pastoral” letter pertaining to the pullout, Bruno
indicated that he would sue for the churches’ property, stating that “the consecrated buildings of each of our
congregations rightfully belong to the Episcopal Church...” The heretical “bishop” states: “I will
not let the Holy Scriptures be compromised by those who seek to make their literalist and simplistic interpretation the only
legitimate one.” He would exalt a non-literalist and complicated method of interpretation, it appears, which makes the
Word of God of none effect; for if the Bible does not mean what it says there is no way authoritatively to know what it means.
ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY
SAYS NON-CHRISTIANS CAN GO TO HEAVEN. Friday Church
News Notes, September 3, 2004 - Speaking at the 2004 Greenbelt Christian rock festival in England, Rowan Williams, the Archbishop
of Canterbury, said that non-Christians can go to heaven because “it is possible for God’s spirit to cross boundaries”
(London Telegraph, Aug. 30). In typical liberal double speak he said that while he “is quite happy to say that
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life” at the same time “how God leads people through Jesus to heaven ... can
be quite varied.” Greenbelt is a very liberal and worldly
music and “social justice” festival that began in 1974. This year the influential Christian worship band Delirious
participated. Beside Rowan Williams, speakers included Jeffrey John, the homosexual Dean of St. Albans. Williams is only the
latest in a long line of Archbishops of Canterbury who believe there are many paths to God. In 1961 Michael Ramsey stated,
“Heaven is not a place for Christians only ... I expect to see many present day atheists there” (Daily Mail,
Feb. 10, 1961). And in an interview with John Mortiner of the Sunday Times, April 11, 1982, Robert Runcie said: “I
find the easiest way to enlightenment is through Jesus Christ. ... But I don’t believe in creating a vacuum into which
we insert the Christian religion. I’m against extravagant claims made for one faith...”
JUDGES STRIKE DOWN PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION BAN.
Friday Church News Notes, September 3, 2004 - So far two
federal judges have struck down a law signed by George Bush in November forbidding partial birth abortion. In June the ban
was struck down by Judge Phyllis Hamilton in San Francisco.
Most recently, the ban was declared unconstitutional on August 26 by Judge Richard Casey in New York City. In his ruling, Casey admitted that partial birth abortion is “gruesome,
brutal, barbaric and uncivilized” and that such abortions “subject fetuses to severe pain.” Yet he claims
that Supreme Court rulings left him no option but to declare that no restrictions can be placed on the practice of abortion.
Indeed, to murder a baby that is entirely in the womb is not more “gruesome, brutal, and barbaric” than to murder
one that is half in the womb. Every sorry, wicked judge that has ruled in favor of abortion will answer to God for the millions
of babies that have been murdered by this means. There is no right to abortion in the U.S. Constitution, and such a “gruesome,
brutal, barbaric” thought would never have entered the minds of the Founding Fathers.
MTV’S WORLDWIDE MORAL POLLUTION. Friday Church News Notes, August 27, 2004 - The annual MTV Video Music Awards
are scheduled for August 28, and there will be tons of moral garbage on display. Nominations include “Naughty Girl”
by Beyonce and “99 Problems” by Jay-Z, which are described even by the secular media as “sultry” and
“gritty.” The Bible uses other terms such as fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, and filthiness. An article
in The Nation (Bangkok, Thailand)
for Aug. 21 observed that the MTV awards show will be available to a potential viewing audience of more than one billion people.
MTV’s 42 channels reach 407 million households worldwide, and it also has 34 international websites. Let those who name
the name of Christ take heed and not allow ourselves to be conformed to this present wicked world: “But fornication,
and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish
talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean
person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom
of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because
of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.”
(Eph. 5:3-6).
AUSTRALIA LAWMAKERS BAN HOMOSEXUAL
MARRIAGE. Friday Church News Notes, August 20,
2004 - Lawmakers in Australia
voted on August 13 to ban homosexual marriage. Prime Minister John Howard’s conservative coalition pushed the law through
and the opposition Labor Party supported it. The bill, which passed by a vote of 39-7, will add the following words to the
nation’s Marriage Act: “Marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily
entered into for life.” Amen. One homosexual senator of the Green Party raged against the new law by charging John Howard
of following the “extreme right-wing fundamentalists currently in power in the United States.”
LUTHERANS ORDAIN A THIRD HOMOSEXUAL PASTOR.
Friday Church News Notes, August 20, 2004 - On July 25
Jay Wiesner became the third openly homosexual Lutheran pastor ordained in the Minneapolis
area. He was ordained at Bethany Lutheran
Church, the same church where he and his partner were “married”
on May 1. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
officially forbids homosexual ordinations, but that is largely on paper only. There are homosexual Lutheran pastors in Oakland, Sacramento, Hollywood, San Bernardino, Alameda, Berkeley,
Kansas City, and other places.
PERSECUTION INCREASING IN CHINA. Friday Church News Notes, August 20, 2004 - The following
is from Assist News Service, August 12: “The Voice of the Martyrs, an international Christian human rights watchdog,
urged China yesterday to release over
100 house church leaders who it said were rounded up last week by security forces as part of an ongoing government-led crack
down on evangelical Christians. Thousands of Chinese Christians are believed to be held in labor camps. tough prison sentences
were expected for the house church leaders who were arrested Friday, August 6, in Kaifeng
City, Henan Province, reported the U.S.-based China Aid Organization
(CAA), another Christian human rights group. They reportedly gathered for a meeting of encouragement at a gathering sponsored
by a Henan House Church when suddenly ‘200 military police, Public Security Bureau and other officers’ arrived
at the scene ‘in about 20 police and military vehicles along with six minibuses.’ Several church leaders arrested
earlier have been tortured and some have died while in police custody church officials, human rights watchdogs and media have
said.”
MUSLIMS MURDER MORE CHRISTIANS. Friday Church News Notes, August 20, 2004 -
Muslims have murdered at least four Christians in recent weeks. On June 30, Maulawi Assadullah’s throat was cut in the
Ghazni province of Afghanistan
because he was “propagating Christianity.” On July 19, Hani Betti, the Christian owner of Al-Hanna restaurant
in Mosul, Iraq,
was killed. The militants then cut off the hands and blinded the eyes of Betti’s Muslim business partner. On July 17,
Mrs. Helmy Tombiling was stabbed to death in Poso, Indonesia. On July 18, Islamic militants shot Susianty Tinuelele to death in the
Central Sulawesi area of Indonesia. She
was murdered in the Presbyterian Christian Church. Four teenagers were wounded in the same attack.
POPE
CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY OF DOGMA ON IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. Friday Church
News Notes, August 20 - On August 13 Pope John Paul celebrated the 150th anniversary of the dogma on Immaculate Conception
with a visit to the Marian shrine in Lourdes, France.
On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX declared “ex cathedra” (from the throne) that Mary was conceived without
sin and that this is a formal dogma of Roman Catholicism. He said: “... the most blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instant
of her conception ... was preserved free from all stain of original sin...” Pope Pius IX went on to warn that those
who deny this dogma are “condemned by their own judgment” and have “made shipwreck as regards the faith”
and have “fallen away from the unity of the Church.” The present pope affirms this unscriptural and blasphemous
doctrine, and thus we see the grave error of affiliating with the Roman Catholic Church and of praising Pope John Paul II,
as many evangelical leaders have done. If this were Rome’s
only error, it would be enough to condemn it as a false “church” and to identify it as having a false gospel.
CATHOLIC SEMINARY SHUT DUE TO PORN SCANDAL. Friday Church
News Notes, August 20, 2004 - A Catholic seminary in St. Poelten,
Austria, has been shut down because of pornographic and homosexual
activity. The case has been going on for many months. Some 40,000 photos, including child pornography, were found on a computer
at the seminary. Some of the images, showing orgy scenes between priests and their instructors, were published in the Austrian
news magazine Profil. In announcing the temporary closure of the school, Catholic Bishop Klaus Kueng said that “active
homophile relations had developed.”
ELDERLY EPISCOPALIAN SAYS HE NEVER HEARD A PREACHER
SAY THAT ADULTERY IS WRONG. Friday Church News Notes, August 13, 2004 - Tere Wilson has been
an Episcopal priest for nearly 20 years, but he has become fed up with the liberalism of the national Episcopal denomination
and has formed a breakaway congregation. It is called the Light of Christ Church in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. When Wilson preached recently on sin and adultery, an elderly man
in his 70s said he had never, in all of his years of being an Episcopalian, heard anybody say from the pulpit that adultery
was wrong (“Breakaway Church’s Pastor calls on ECUSA to Repent,” Agape Press, Aug. 9). This is an amazing
testimony to that denomination’s rank apostasy. What is the root of America’s
moral debauchery? It is the apostasy and compromise in the pulpits of its churches.
BEWARE OF JOHN ELDREDGE AND RANSOMED HEART MINISTRIES.
Friday Church
News Notes, July 30, 2004 - John Eldredge, the co-founder of Ransomed Heart ministries and author of The Sacred Romance
and Wild at Heart, is a dangerous spiritual guide. He promotes psycho-babble, spending a lot of time talking about “father
wounds.” One of his mentors is psychologist Larry Crabb, and he worked with Focus on the Family for 10 years. He teaches
that Jeremiah 17:9 doesn’t apply to a believer and he can therefore follow his heart, but Paul understood that the old
nature is still very much present in the Christian life (Rom. 7:18). The only way for the believer to know the right way in
life is to follow the Scriptures, not his own deceptive heart. Eldredge teaches that if attending church becomes a burden,
it can be dropped. “You might even need to give up going to church for a while or reading your Bible” (Eldredge,
The Journey of Desire). He claims that a year that he stopped attending church was “one of the most refreshing years
of my life.” This is open disobedience to the clear teaching of Scripture (i.e., Heb. 10:25). The facilitator’s
guide for small-group leaders who use Eldredge’s Wild at Heart videos urges them not to allow any man to dominate the
group and to beware of “the doctrine cop” who is zealous about doctrinal purity.
CHINA BLOCKS RELIGIOUS INTERNET SITES. The following is from ENI, July 23: “The Chinese government has blocked
a wide range of foreign-based religious Internet sites that relate to persecution of Christians and believers of other faiths,
the Dalai Lama and a ‘surprising number’ of Roman Catholic Web sites. This is the conclusion of a two-month study
by Oslo-based Forum 18, which monitors state restriction to religious freedom worldwide.”
STAR TREK CELEBRITY PETRIFIED BY DEATH.
Friday Church
News Notes, July 30, 2004 - William Shatner, who played Capt. James Kirk of the Starship Enterprise in the original
Star Trek series, is afraid of death. Shatner, who is 73, says that the recent death of actor Marlon Brando hit him hard.
He told Gail Shister of Knight Ridder News Service: “I’m so not ready to die. It petrifies me. I go alone. I go
to a place I don’t know. It might be painful. It might be the end. My thought is that it is the end. I become nameless,
and I spent a lifetime being known” (“Deep-thinking Shatner has mortality on his mind,” The Sunday Oregonian,
Portland, Oregon, “Clip
& Click,” p. 5). Star Trek denies the existence of the Almighty God of the Bible and plays with various
unscriptural New Age themes, and it has influenced multitudes. For those who have ears to hear, the Bible holds the answer
to life and death. According to Scripture, death is a journey either to heaven or to hell. All men have sinned against God
and are under His judgment, but Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died in the sinner’s place on Calvary.
The sinner that repents and puts his trust in Christ is forgiven and justified before God, but the sinner that dies without
a saving relationship with Christ will bear his own punishment for all of eternity in a place the Bible describes as the lake
of fire. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST CALLS FOR ASSASSINATION
OF SCIENTISTS. Friday Church
News Notes, July 30, 2004 - Jerry Vlasak, a former surgeon and top advisor to two animal rights organizations in England, has called for the murder of scientists working in
biomedical research in order to save animals. He told the Observer in London:
“I think violence is part of the struggle against oppression. ... I don’t think you’d have to kill too many
[researchers]. I think for five lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million, 10 million non-human
lives.” Vlasak is scheduled to address an animal rights conference in September organized by British groups Shac and
Speak. According to the Bible, God created animals for man. Animals should be treated humanely, but they are not made in the
image of God and do not have eternal souls and there is no moral equivalence between killing an animal or a man.
SECRET POLICE INTERROGATE AND BEAT CHRISTIANS IN UZBEKISTAN. Friday Church
News Notes, July 30, 2004 - The following is from the Barnabas
Fund, July 16: “Baptists in Urgench in the north-western Uzbek region of Khorezm face interrogations and abuse from
authorities who are cracking down on Protestant Christians in what appears to be an attempt to halt the spread of Christianity
in this Muslim majority ex-Soviet republic. At least two Baptist Christians have recently been interrogated by the Uzbek secret
police, known as the NSS. Both had been intimidated and threatened with long prison sentences, reportedly in an attempt to
ascertain the extent and nature of their links with western missions organisations. ... The difficulties for Baptists in Urgench
are reported to have begun in February when the region’s justice administration revoked the registered status of the
Urgench Baptist Church for ‘the enticement of underage children into religious organisations,
and also their religious instruction against their or their parents’ will’. Uzbek law bans the activity of unregistered
religious communities.”
